I just brought my new PW-2200 home, set everything up, powered up the receiver and...POP!

The sub makes a popping noise every time it is powered up...I'm assuming this isn't normal? Everything seems to work fine once it's on, but the POP is disturbing...

Any others' PW-2200's do this? Any advice?

Thanks!

Return it. Got a warranty?

My 2 PW-2200 v.1's have no turn on or off noises.

Quill - mine has a audible 'pop' as well - I believe this is normal as the amp is coming on - a lot of amps will 'pop' a speaker when first turned on. I wouldn't worry about it at all - but if it bothers you then take it back. Where did you get it? You can pm me if you wish - I'm in Edmonton

As I previously said, mine are silent & mine are version 1.

Do you 2 have the version 2?

The PW-2100 release was delayed due to problems.... I just wonder if it popped?

Thanks for the feedback guys! It is a V.2. I got it from --EDITED OUT--got a pretty good deal, actually.

It's got warranty, but if it's a standard thing, I won't sweat it....although it does bother me....

My PW-2200 does NOT pop at all when it turns on. The only way you know that it came on is that the light is on (besides the fact that it produces bass once that starts :) ).

My PW-2100 does the pop at start up. Its definetly not loud or forceful enough to cause any damage. Try emailing Paradigm and see what they say before you take it back. They'll more than likely tell you its normal.

Same here - no popping. Only way to tell it's on is a small orange light that's kinda hard to see without looking at it head-on.

The salesman called me back first thing this morning, and asked me to try a few things (sub connected/not, Receiver LFE high/low, sub gain high/low). I've tried a few combinations of those, but we'll see...

I'll post the results.

FWIW, he sounded a bit concerned and said he had never had any of the 'digm subs "pop" like that...

Well, I tried everything, and I can't stop the pop.

It's kind of weird that around half of the people who responded have the pop at startup, and the other half don't.

The pop is annoying, but I'm not sure how hard I should push for a fix/new sub....

I'm calling the salesman this a.m....

If you can somehow get a different brand of sub fitted to your amp maybe you can eliminate the possibility that the pop is produced by the amp. In this case, your 2200 is faulty and you should certainly replace it.

But first you need to determine whether the pop is produced by your amp or by the sub.

Hmmm...good observation.

I know it's not the receiver, since the sub the PW-2200 is replacing never once popped...

I talked to the rep, and he's going to call the Paradigm guy and see what he says...we'll see!

A good observation indeed. Perhaps "they" decided to introduce this new "feature" on their ver 2?
