Hey guys I just bought a Samsung 40" LN40B530 LCD. I am using HDMI for my PS3 but my X box 360 is the older model without the hdmi input. On the television I don't see a VGA input but there is a DVI input and a PC input. Is there any way I can hook up my Xbox to it so I can get full 1080p for HD DVD's?

What's wrong with 1080i over component? It carries all the information of a 1080p/24/25/30 stream, and presuming your TV is half decent it'll de-interlace it just fine.

Well, nothing is wrong with 1080i. I had my PS3 hooked up using 1080i and then hooked it up via HDMI and noticed a more improved picture. It looked more detailed and you could notice a change in motion even though the TV is only 60hz. The whole picture flows a little more smoothly on my 1080p PS3 than on my 1080i HD DVD player.

I did just buy a VGA cable for the X box and honestly I think it looks worse. My TV is telling me it is playing at 1920x1080p but it does not look as detailed as it did at 1920x1080i. I have the cable hooked into the PC input by the way. Any help would be great.

Sounds like you need to play around with your TV settings a bit. Also try using the expanded reference levels and see if that helps.

I used to have this setup. Try changing the "black" reference level settings that show up when using the VGA adapter (standard, intermediate and expanded). The settings can be changed to more accurately reflect the reference black level, which is apparently higher on some computer monitors. I did find that it still looked darker than component on my Samsung DLP no matter what though.
