Hi all, I tried doing a search for this question but couldn't find an answer. I Have a Panasonic 800U with about 1200 hours on it. Picture controls are THX mode at it's defaults, so about 50%. It is set to force 1. I wasn't going to play games on it but after reading many of the forum posts I decided to try it out. When playing any games the 800U IRs to where you can see the HUDS clearly but only if you are looking up close in a dark room. They are not visible during normal TV viewing.

While I was initially not worried since the IR wasn't visible during normal viewing, what is concerning me is the amount of time it is taking for the IR to clear. I use a channel that is zoomed to hide the logo to remove IR. I'm finding that a 2 hr session takes anywhere between 3 & 4 hours to completely clear and a 4 hour session is taking almost 12 hours to clear. What I'm wondering is that normal removal time for IR on a plasma or is that too long?

Any advice you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Every set is different. You even said yourself that "They are not visible during normal TV viewing. " so it sounds as if you will be a ok.......

This is a bit longer than most people here probably but still normal. The key factor is that you cannot see it during regular content. Clearly when the pixels are lit they make the IR vanish, but it lingers slightly on unlit pixels on a blank input in a dark room. I think the key here is many people never see this type IR so it really does not apply to them.

Personally I still game occasionally on my 2 year old sammy plasma for periods as long as yours. It doesn't show any IR ever, but its quite possible that some residual charge lingers on a blank screen just like yours, who knows. I never look for it, I just watch some tv after long gaming sessions. And of course my primary set (kuro) is gamed on extensively with no ill effects.

I say not to worry, you clearly already vary your content so you are good. If you were only playing games and not watching tv perhaps then I would tell you to at least use a screen wipe.

If you are really worried and want to clear it faster you can display any moving content at higher contrast.
