I was just at Starpower in Dallas the other day and a salesman there told me that the HD-DVD players do not play in full 1080p. Is that true, or does he just not know about the new Oppo DV-981HD? By the way, they only sell BlueRay there, maybe that's it.

Theres a mix of different players, some are 1080i and others are 1080p. Its not really a visibile difference anyway. For the first 6 months of launch when blu-ray had 1080p and HD DVD only had 1080i, HD DVD was still getting better reviews for higher picture quality.

That Oppo is NOT an HD-DVD player.


Most of the BD players don't play in what I consider full 1080p either. They take the 1080i output and process it further to 1080p just like most 1080p displays would.

I hope you realize that this is not an HD DVD player. This player is only compatible with normal DVDs and won't give you true high definition.
