I wouldn't look at the 1001 as a comparison to the newer 1005/2005 models. The 1001 is over 2 years old and was HK's first attempt at dpr and had its ups and downs. The 1005/2005 should be much much better. The 1005 seems identical to the 2005 except for the watt output. There was a long thread on the 2005 i remember seeing, you should check that. You seem to be getting a good deal on the 1005. Makes me feel like getting the open box 1001 with hopes of exchanging it for a 1005. 
I am looking for a receiver and I'm also eyeing the 1014. Ezset sounds cool but i don't believe its as accurate as using an SPL meter. Ezset doesn't do EQ either (though the new ones do). Pioneers MCACC seems to work really well though and also does EQ.
