Questions for Westinghouse 27w7 and 32w6 owners

3308 Views 74 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  Woodrow
As many of you already know, I am quite satisfied with my 27w7 overall. But there are a couple annoyances that make me wonder if it is just my set or the sets in general.

1) In VGA mode with a supposed high quality VGA cable hooked up to my 6600GT, there is visible static when viewing all black backgrounds. It might not be visible at first, but look carefully. It also appears in TV mode, when watching SD material on digital channels from Comcast. Because I see the static on both these modes, I'm think it's the TV and no the cable.

2) Also, I notice that there is slight backlight bleed in the upper left corner of the screen. Anyone else notice a corner that it ever so slightly brighter when viewing black in a dark room?

I have the 32W7

I don't use VGA so I can't comment on that, but via Component (DVD) and Composite (SD TV and PS2 videogames) I do not have any static that I can see in black or dark scenes.

Black is solid black.

Regarding the Blacklight bleeding out, NO, I haven't noticed it. Doesn't mean it's not there, I just haven't seen it.
I use a cheap Dynax VGA cable i got for 1.50, no static.....and i do not notcie a blacklight problem of concentration in one particualr area or the upper left corner, sounds like the TV....it was open box agter all correct?
Hmm, maybe I'll buy a 32w6 since it is on sale and check out how it compares to this 27w7. I still have a week to return this TV.
No static on my 32w6 on vga. Nothing on Black.

Although, the LCD is barely 2 weeks old.

My SD (Brighthouse) is also very acceptable but I also had

separate dedicated cable lines dropped from the main into

the house for the LCD and the broadband.

And as far as light leakage. None here. I know what light leakage looks

like....I owned a Dell 9300......lol.

I noticed the black bleed but oddly only during movies...when playing video games even if the whole screen turns black for a moment it's dead black. Is that normal?
Hey Justin.....that PM was comparing the 27in W6 to the W7 sorry, just relized when I went to BB and checked it out....if you are going to buy the 32 W6 I suggest go get it RIGHT NOW cause its 999 at BB and that is the SAME PRICE the associates of Best Buy(on my bros discount its the same price) are getting it at, so you are getting that TV at their price basically and they told me it was going to last long and the price was going to go back up soon to either 1099 or 1199....probably the latter they said, for anyone else who cares either

I bought the 32w6 a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if I can get back the difference.
Has anyone noticed a humming/buzzing sound from their set? I only notice it when I mute it , If it's just the humming I can live with it as long as it isn't an indication of a more serious problem(now or down the road).
No humming on mine.

I just went to BB and got my $100's back with the price match policy.

$106 to be exact.

With the new price this tv HAS to be the best deal going in the 32" LCD's.
Same here....No humming or noise.

I paid $1049 less than 2 weeks ago too....

I'm rolling out in a few minutes to collect the $50 from Best Buy. Receipt in hand :D

I also agree.....at $999 it's the best deal going...at least at the moment.

Er......what can be causing that...

I read some other guy complaining about it as well and someone told him it was the cable not being grounded. Im gonna go home and unplug the Hdmi cable and see if it insues.

Good luck. Let us know...the outcome.

Worst case scenerio...you'll have to exchange it.

Well, I just took the 32w6 out of the box. No problems detected...yet, . Here are couple fast pics to show a size comparison of the 27 next to the 32. I haven't even taken the protective plastic cover off the 32 screen yet.

I will definitely post a more detailed comparison of the two sets later. But one thing I can already see for certain is that the 32 has a dimmer backlight than the 27...which is a GOOD thing for me, since I sit relatively close. I remember looking at the spec sheets and noticing that the 27 has a 550cd/m2 backlight vs a 400cd/m2 for the 32. I thought it was a typo before purchasing this 32 set.

Now that isn't to say the 32's backlight is insufficient. It is still blindly bright at 100, which is of course what it was set at when I turned it on for the first time. But at zero, it can become dimmer than my 27w7, which again, for me is a good thing. I also see even darker blacks with the dimmer light. Instead of 0 like I have on the 27w7, I might set the backlight around 15 for the 32w6.

I will let you guys know more soon!

Justin.......love the Duke Nukem mousepad....its doesnt get any better than that....but im keeping my 27in, cause a 32in moniter is rediculous (for me anyway, just my opinion...ill go blind) this 27in is way enough. Im typing you a PM about the info we talk about right now

Ryck25007...No humming or buzzing here man, other than little problems that have been addressed in the other W7 threads....I have noticed nothing physically wrong with my set or anything go bad....although one time i turned it off and back on REAL fast and when it came on i had just a black screen...but then i turned it off and then back on after waiting a couple of secs and it was fine, and it hasnt did it again.....Ive heard of this happening to LCDs and PDPs alike so im not worried about it, just cant turn off/on real fast

Hehe, thanks movieguy. I've had that mousepad since...wow, 1996!

Yeah, 32-inches is looking HUGE for me right now. Actually, I really wanted to keep my 27w7. I got a great deal on it and overall it looks great. But then, I kept seeing the uneven backlight bleeding and the static on dark screens. I have to make a decision whether I can live with it. I can't exchange my w7 since it's an open box. My only option is to buy a new one at full price. And now, when there is only a $100 difference between the 27 and 32-inch models, I just had to make the jump. :D Thank God the backlight is a bit dimmer...and it's still a bit bright for my eyes!!

More info coming soon! :)
Guys,

Does Best Buy give you 30 days to do a price match? I'm good if so. I bought my 32w6 on 4/21.
