Questions...rookie who wants a 50" SXRD

489 Views 7 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Czupak
I'm a rookie looking to buy my 1st quality TV. After spending way too much time in BB, CC, Tweeter & any other local store that carries them, I am very impressed with the Sony SXRD's.

I've been reading a lot of the discussions on the current SXRD models. Seems like a lot of problems with "green blobs" & "yellow lines" with the late '05 builds. I understand this may simply be coincidence and that people with newer builds just haven't had the problems yet. I have a few questions and any help would be greatly appreciated.

#1. Stupid question: Where do you look to find out when the set was built? I will probably buy online, so I'll have to trust what the the company I buy from tells me.

#2. When buying online from a dealer who is not Sony authorized; What does this do to the warranty?

#3. Should I just wait until July for the new SXRD's?

Thanks for your help!

Why would you even consider a potentially problem plagued 2005 SXRD when the 2006 sets are forthcoming? Even for the price you are willing to pay, its still not worth it.

You might want to edit the price and place that you intend to purchase out of your post.

I would never purchase any microdisplay from a non-authorized dealer.

I think so

Enlightening to say the least!!

Thanks...
As far as I know Sony will honor the warranty. Call Sony and discuss it with them directly, that's what I did. In fact, you can add an extended service plan directly from Sony...

You may want to visit sonystyle, com and look into an extended warranty through Sony. They are competitively priced and Sony allows you 60 days from purchase to add the warranty. I purchased mine (60" SXRD) from an online retailer and was nervous as he!!...but the $700 difference was too hard to pass up. I was able to purchase the TV and the 5 year extended service plan (warranty) directly from Sony and was still almost $400 under the price any local brick and mortar was quoting me. BTW, I got my SXRD last week and it was a March 06 build and works perfectly. I was expecting an "older" set but everything worked out in the long run.

As to your question about build date, it's prominently displayed on the back of the TV, you can't miss it.
