Is a DVD-RAM drive the same thing as a DVD-R drive? I was lead to believe this is the case and bought a Toshiba DVD-RAM SW2002 recently but I'll be damned if I can get this thing to write to a DVD-R disk...

A search on google lead to a couple of contradicting articles.

They are two different formats. I believe some DVD-RAM drives can write on DVD-R (or possibly DVD+R) disks, but that would be a feature of the individual drive.

Doug ,

-- That drive only does DVD-RAM from what I recall [ no DVD-R or DVD+R ] .

-- There are other models that do DVD-RAM and DVD-R if you need the DVD-RAM feature . The Panasonic LFD311 is a perfect example and can be had for around $165.00 [new] .
