I have a VGA-RGBHV cable and trying to figure out which is H and which is V. the cable colors ar red/green/blue and grey and black.

If you have a way to test continuity (DMM or test light) the easies is to see which is attached to each. Pin 13 is H and 14 is V.

Alternatively, try one way, and if it doesn't work, try the other (I've bought 2 cables from the same supplier, and they didn't use a consistent coloring scheme, in fact they just used diametrically opposed conventions for H and V sync!)

Often, but not always, it is in the same order that the format is written out, ie, RGBHV, so the wire farthest from the R, where they break out, is the V, and the next one to it is the H. Colors on the synch lines mean very little, some use white and black, some use black and gray, some use gray and white....
