If I did it correctly (not that hard, LOL) I think my A2 has T17 firmware, which I believe is the one before 1.3 (T19?)


I have the 1.3 upgrade disk from Toshiba, haven't received 1.5 yet, but just sent in my pink card.


My question is since every disk I have popped in has played flawlessly, several HD DVD's, many Blockbuster rented SD DVD's, even Happy Feet combo, not a single issue, video or audio related.


Is there any reason to even change my player firmware at this point? I have read a few posts on here about maybe LFE issues with 1.5, etc.


In your more experienced opinion, should I just leave well enough alone, or am I missing out on something with version 1.3 at a minimum?

I'm on 1.3 also and like you have had 100% perfect performance with every disc. Here's my thought process: I will wait for the updates to come out on CD and before installing them I will make sure that they generally have a good comments surrpounding them. I will also keep these discs on hand an NOT install them until my player shows some sort of issue at which point I will update to see if I can get better results. In other words, I want to have the option, but will not use it until there ius some need to.

Am I correct that if I saw "T17" somewhere in the Setup screen, that indeed I am not even on 1.3 yet???


Is the 1.3 version generally accepted to have not introduced any issues that weren't there before?


I will pop the disk in if it gives me slightly increased load times, etc?


Just couldn't find definitively what I even gain by going to 1.3. I just also want to make sure there isn't some nice benefit in the 1.3 firmware that I am missing out on. I have only had my player hooed up for 10 days at this point.

I am a total noob to anything requiring firmware updates, and I think my version on my A2 is T17, that is earlier than 1.3 (T19?), yes?


Should I just upload the 1.3 even though I have yet to have a single problem? Am I alone not wanting to bring a problem in? Or is it common sense, and all users just load each update disk everytime they receive the next version?


Sorry if this is obvious, I have just seen a few posts recently where some people upgraded to 1.5 and now have some issues that they didn't before.

Doug, I believe you have FW 1.1 or 1.2 not 100% sure , but yes FW 1.3 is the T19 . I decided to up-date my A2 from 1.1 straight to the 1.3 FW. I received the 1.2 disk from Toshiba, but never loaded in ( in fear that it would mess something up). So, when 1.3 disk arrived, after much deliberation, I decided to load it ..... It did fix the audio out of synch issue that we all had.( ie. after you pause and return to play the audio would take a split second to catch up to the video) no big deal the audio was always in synch with the video when you were watching the movie anyway.


I am in the same situation, in the sense that I too have never had so much as a hick up on my A2, and I have thrown everything at this player, SD DVDs HD DVDs (even the ones that people reported problems with eg (COM, Happy Feet etc) .

I am holding off on the 1.5 FW unless I get 100% confirmation that it fixes something problematic...., you know what they say , "IF IT AINT BROKE....."

I am just going to leave it, even without loading the 1.3 FW. The good news is if I have any kind of problem, I will just pop in the disk and update it.


They haven't sent me 1.5 yet, but I only mailed my card in a few weeks ago.
