On the X1 the fans are mounted in the middle of the chassis, but I think what you really want to know is where the vents are, right? The inlet is on the back of the projector and the exhaust is out the front.

I'd say just enough to connect your cables (a couple of inches).

For the H30, the exhaust goes out the front, and the intake is from the side. You don't need much room for the backside of the H30 either.
