I think this is the right forum to ask this question...

I'm ready to install a new large capacity NAS whose primary use will be to hold multi-media content. The NAS will be installed in a rack which is outside of my dedicated HT but I still want the quietest solution I can find.

As far as NAS housing, I like what I read about the QNAP TS-859 pro (not the noisy 2u rack mount version) which can take up to 8 2Tb disks.

Does anybody have an opinion about this NAS, especially from a noise perspective?

What are the quietest 2T disks that still offer reasonable performance for media streaming? Are the Western Digital Caviar Green drives suitable?
