A recent issue of Machine Design magazine has a small article that may be of interest to HTPC'ers. It indicates that Nidec is testing a plastic material that deadens vibration and noise better than plastics used in current PC fans. It provides a lot of gory details on the material (30% glass filled polybutylene terphthalate or PBT, I'm not making that up
), but unfortunately no numbers on dB improvement. Something to watch for in the future.
