When I went to see Monty Python and the Holy Grail when it first came out I laughed so hard that the theater manager asked me to leave. :)

The only other movie that comes close is 'Life of Brian'.

Of the official bunch, I'd pick AFCW. But my personal pick, if we are talking about 'laugh out loud' type funny, would be something like The Big Lebowski or Raising Arizona, or maybe Something About Mary.

But there are plenty of others that are very funny in a not so laugh out loud way, but I'm not sure that that's the only measure of funniness.

Maybe it's time to point at the funniest film by the quotes? ;)

I love The General, but it has very little to offer in the funny quote department :D

(But I can't believe that I forgot to represent Woody Allen and Monty Python among the choices!!)

iago,

Are you asking us to choose which movie we find the funniest, or do we have to select from what you think is the funniest movies.

There are a lot of very funny movies, but what comes to mind right now are any of the Peter Seller's "Pink Panther" movies, and also "The Party" with Peter Sellers. I also loved the movie "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

Actually, I was inspired by the funny quote thread... as in which movie has the most memorable and gutwrenching quotes.

But as you noticed, it was kinda difficult to not list a hundred films... even if you rule out visual gag films like Jour de fête...

Oh well...

Court Jester, with Danny Kaye

Father Goose, with Cary Grant

Catherine Freneau: Look at their clothes! They're filthy.

Walter Eckland: No, they're dirty, I'm filthy

Walter Eckland: filthy beast here, send whiskey.

Maybe not the funniest laugh out loud but the most quotable for me is "My Favorite Year" which thankfully is finally coming out on DVD.

First time some guys/gals me included were watching Cheech and Chongs, "Up In Smoke" through green air that filled the room.

We were all stoked, ROFTLMAO only plural. Every thing was funny as we filled and passed along the bong filled and spilled like we got it for free. Year it came out 1975, same year as The Rocky Horror Picture Show, don't get me into that one.

I never played Frank N. F. honest, no female makeup or drag for this man.:)

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the Marx Brothers. They're not on the list, but still. The time I laughed the most was in their little-seen film "The Big Store".

One hapless guy comes into a department store staffed and managed by Groucho and brothers. This guy has about a dozen kids. After a short time, some of the kids are missing & the guy won't leave without them.

Groucho ends up convincing the guy that he didn't really have that many kids after all. The guy is so flustered by Groucho's logic that he gives up and leaves (without the missing kids). I didn't stop laughing for the whole movie.

At least you can vote, AVS forum software doesn't allow webtv subcribers to vote, we get a AVS sign that says your session is timed out every time, I've ever tried it!

That's why I post my answer otherwise we couldn't be in any polls, it's not the moderators fault at all. The software that doesn't reconize webtv as a computer enity

or zenomorph like in Aliens. The Ub software isn't for all it's for computers. I have a webtv brower using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 it just doesn't jive

with it. I am glad that's the only problem we have. :)
