I just got my disc today. Aside from the EE it's got very obvious and annoying compression problems. If you look at backgrounds you'll notice what I call moving grain, bitrate starvation induced. In addition there are many scenes in motion that suffer from bitrate induced motion blur and general softness. Looking at the space used it's only 7GB - that's 1.5GB of unused space left on the disc. Add to that the length of the movie (134 minutes) and we have a case of bitrate starvation.

Because my harddrives failed the other week I unfortunately don't have the space to do a thourough analysis of the bitrate usage and quantization unfortunately. However - can anyone tell me how the R1 is in this regard?

I don't know about R1, but the R2/4 definetly seems to need the superbit treatment.
