Anyone know about the R5000 mod that can be done to a D* receiver and how well it works?

There's a thread about the R5K here already, so this'll probably get locked or merged...


D*'s MPEG-4 receivers can't be modified, and everything's on MPEG-4 now. So you can't R5K a D* receiver. There's a few models of E* receivers that can be modded (and use MPEG-4 to see all channels you subscribe to), but they're discontinued.

I know the new receivers can't be modded but there are still tons of the older one's in their system like the 211 and 411 so I don't think they will disable them anytime soon. You can still get them on Ebay so I still think it's a viable option since FW on the cable box is not working. According to the company that does the mod the 211 and 411 are MPEG-4 so until they replace all the 211 and 411 in the system (and I would think that will be a while) I should be OK.
