I'm building a new HTPC for DVD playback and Gamming, but i have one question. My RPTV only supports 800x600 (RCA MM52110) At this resolution would the Redeon 8500 really make a difference in gamming? Thanks!

Yes as it bested plain Geforce3 on Quake3 at this resolution. Plus it'll give you component output later when the DVI->Component dongle is available for 8500. VE is more like Geforce MX for gaming.

yes even at 800x600 it can still make a difference because you can enable all kinds of effects to maximize the rendering :

- Maximum details

- 4X Full Screen AntiAliasing

- Maximal anisotropy

- .....

For instance, if you want to play Tribes2, a radeon VE is not enough even at 800x600 and no special effects on.

The VE should be reserved for Multimedia and games that doesn't require FPS like strategy games and so on.
