I need gain match my subs, but I'm not clear on how to use the spl meter in terms of where to put the dial / wheel to.

Thanks for any info....

These are the instructions on how to do it, but nothing about the dial or wheel on the meter.

Where is the 80 db mark on the meter ?

To gain match, proceed as follows. Start out with your VTF-3 MK3. Play the 40 Hz test tone on our CD. Adjust the volume on the receiver to get 80 dB reading on your SPL meter (C weighting, slow, placed 3 ft in front of sub). Mark the position so you can place the VTF-3 MK4 exactly in the same spot. Move the VTF-3 MK3 out and move the VTF-3 MK4 to the same spot. Play the same track again. Adjust the volume control on the sub (not receiver) to get the same 80 dB reading. Now they are gain matched.

Adjust the RS meter dial near your thumb to 80db. With no noise needle will be at 00, so above or blow that will result in postive or negative as the needle moves. So you want the needle pointing straight up.

Ok cool. Looking at the meter numbers they go from let's say 0.00 to 6.6 or so. Where should the needle be to get the 80dB ? Also on the meter wheel/dial turn it to 80 or 60 ?

Thanks

Turn dial to 80.

80dB will then be 0.00.

if the needle is hovering + 3dB, that means the level is +3dB to what your dial is set to, in this case, 80, so 83dB. Likewise if the needle is -3dB, so it's 77dB

Thanks for the info. I'll play the test tone on the hsu cd track 13 which should be the 40hz . Then turn on the meter, set it to 80 on the dial and then adjust the volume on the receiver.

Thanks again.
