Interesting comparison. Regarding the photos used to demonstrate the superior picture quality of the Ravisent decoder, there is actually more detail visible with WinDVD and PowerDVD. Check closely the wood grain of the guitar.

Not really. Since CineMaster is properly averaging field 1 and field 2 together, the net result is total blending on the combined frame, thus making objects that are stationary seem blurrier (flied1/2 + field2/2).


Since PowerDVD and WinDVD do not propery average out the two fields, stationary objects will appear more detailed since there is no temporal difference field1 and field2.


The CineMaster DVD decoder can act this way too by seting the DXVAForceWeave regisrty setting.

I just thought it was interesting they chose to demonstrate superior image quality by using photos that show less detail than the competitors.


Wouldn't the field averaging discrepancy make this an "apples to oranges" comparison?:)

Very true and that is exactly what the IVI and CyberLink images look like. A typical interlaced video locked into weave mode.
