I just purchased from BestBuy this package and was wondering if the dish is HD ready? I was told i can only get HD from the directv HD package and not the local broadcast HD. Is this true? I'm in bayarea CA

Exactly what package did you buy?


It is probably a DirecTV package with three RCA regular receivers and the triple LNB dish. This dish will get you HD from DirecTV, if you have a DirecTV HD receiver, which what you got are most likely not. And subscribe to the HD package. But, your local HD stations are not on DirecTV. You probably can get your local SD stations. And, to get OTA local HD you need a OTA receiver and an antenna.

so i'd need a seperate dish and receiver for OTA HD? that sux.

Not really. There are several DirecTV HD receivers that will also tune HD OTA stations. I have the Hughes HTL-HD and there is the Samsung TS160 and a few others. You will need a separate TV antenna, however. But, depending on how close you are to the towers, it could be a simple set of rabbit ears.
