RCA HD DVD player will not play "300"

Hi all,

With the sequel to "300" soon to be released, I thought I would watch my "300" HD DVD again last night. But when I loaded the disc, the player threw up a message that reads: "Cannot play disc. Disc not DVD format".

Anybody know how this can be? Of course the disc is DVD Format--it is a HD DVD. Just to make sure the player still works, I successfully played Beowulf HD DVD.

Thanks for any tips!

Most likely your 300 disc has suffered disc rot and is unplayable. There's a thread in the Software forum that discusses the issues with Warner HD DVDs. Beowulf was released by Paramount.

Thanks, I thought about that, but both sides of the disc look absolutely pristine. Perhaps the rot is visually undetectable. Interestingly, the Beowulf disc had some sort of haze on it, but played perfectly after a bit of cleaning. Oh, well, at least the 300 Blu-ray is cheap now.
