Has anyone used the RCA VGA to component adapter to run from their PC to monitor or RPTV? It looks just like the audio authority but at a fraction of the price.

AFAIK they essentially perform the same function, but I've never done an A/B comparison. There was pix problem with some panny hdtvs using the RCA version a few years ago.

This device only works at 540p/1080i timings, so if you want to run any 480p or 720p timings, you are SOL. Also I have used this one, the AA and the KD units, and the PQ of the RCA is decidedly subpar compared to the other two.

Karnis,

How do you have both your HTPC and HDTV dish installed with your Mits. I have the same setup 55819 and DTC-100 and want to enjoy both on my Mits.

Is buying a transcoder generally considered better than buying an ATI card that works with ATI's adapter?

Obviously, the transcoder could be used with any card that supported the resolutions...I'm just wondering if, given the cost of a good transcoder, there's any reason to jump up from my ATI 7500 (using S-video to TV - yuck) to an 8500 or better.

Thanks!

The other option i was looking at was placing a switch box between my HTPC VGA and RCA DTC-100 outputs. I only have the one HD input on my TV and thought this might be another option.

Will i loose any PQ with going this route. AA doesn't make one, but did find one at NTI but was a little expensive for only a two port. Belkin and a few other companies make some simple switch-boxes but it does say that it can only be used with 17" or smaller monitors and not SVGA ones? You have to use an electronic switcher for the higher resolutions.

So when I run at 1280X720 its not correctly displaying? Weird, it looks pretty good. (except for the text)

The only timings I have got to work so far has been the 480p timings. Overscan_ It is offcenter to the left and I have a Panny 56 HD set. (4.3) I still have not got it to work in the other timings though. I really wish Karnis would let us know what his recomendation is if he already owns one. I am able to read and perform instructions, but his guide did not yield any results. PLEEEEAAAAASSSSEEEE KARNIS. You will be our hero. There are a few others that would agree in our bewilderment.

I think a transcoder is superior to the ATI adapter (which I use right now) in every way except if you really want to run 1080i mode, which the adapter is particularly well suited for. The fact that it doesn't support 540p and any attempts to run custom resolutions automatically puts it in 480p with a virtual desktop makes it very frustrating if you want to have any control over your video output at all.

lovebohn,

Yes I am,

I thought it looked great. It was off center until I found an adjustment on it to adjust it horizontally. I run 848X480 (540timings) 960X540 1280 X 720 for dvds. I thought it was upcoverting the 720p to 1080i until Karnis said different. Oh well I do know it works and looks great. I would be interested in seeing the differences btw the rca, audio auth, and key digital now. If the RCA looks "bad" compared to the others I'm in for a big suprise!

I have a Yamaha RX-V1 with 3 HD component inputs.

Another reason I didnt like the RCA....that darn adjustment screw. Better get it just right.

As I stated before, I've had all three units, the KD looks best, then the AA, with the RCA bringing up the rear.

Karnis I have a sony KV-32HS500 with a DVI input is it safe for me to be using this to connect my HTPC? I have a Radeon 9700 and I can get 640*480 with underscan and 720*480 with overscan. Messing with powerstrip always gets me out of sync. Do u know any other resolutions I could use, and would I have better luck sizing the screen if I got a transcoder and connected thru component inputs?

This might be a bit off-topic, but I'll ask nyway. I have the KD transcoder and a Radeon Mobility 9000 chipset. I'd like to use the two together to get a pixel-perfect image on my Toshiba MT7 LCD 1280x720 projector. I'm going to start with standard 1280x720 timings and see what happens, but any advance advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike
