New to the forums and the HDD Recorder community. I got the unit the other day it is a Refurbished unit and and am having a few issues that hopefully someone here will be able to help me with.

1) The Network Navi feature seems to be a little buggy. I go through the onscreen setup and set a username and password; both of which have letters and numbers. The DHCP is set to auto to grab and IP address from my router (Linksys WRT54G V5 w/ latest firmware). When I end up going to a web browser from my computer. I get the login and password screen; Input the username and password that I set previously, i get the same box 3 times then a blank screen.

I talked to with tech support and they said it was probably something in my router. When looking at my router I didnt see anything that would need to be changed but it is being recognized on the DHCP table.

As well as the above I am using IE 7 and the latest version of quicktime.

2) Onscreen TV Guide, have Comcast Analog cable and wont grab anything, probably just need to call Comast.

Any help that can given would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Jeff

I'm on my second Toshiba RDXS-54, actually replaced with a 55 direct from Toshiba, and neither one has been able to network with my PC! Very frustrasting! Despite lots of time spent on tech support with them, no go.

Just a coincidence? I don't know. I love the unit otherwise, and will likely try a third unit!

The reason I'm telling you this is that they told me what they do with the units like my first one that I had to return: They sell it to a re-seller that "refurbishes" it, but very unlikely can fix a defective machine like mine. So in all likelihood your machine is defective and the Network Navi feature will never work.

Good luck anyway, and I'd love to know if others have had similar experiences to me. According to Toshiba, my situation is a total fluke, but I wonder...

Peace,

Steve

Check out this thread.

It is for the XS54 but also there are XS55 users. Networking has been discussed and there are some good tips. Better than you'll probably get from a manufacturer's help line.

I set aside some time to set up the Network Navi this afternoon. I've had my RD-XS54 for a week now and wanted to make sure I had enough time if I ran into problems. 5 minutes later I was up and running. I'm using Firefox for browser access to the XS54. I did not have to shut Norton anti virus.

All I can say is - Wow. I've got the XS-54 running to my router via cat 5 cable. I can now use my notebook (wireless) to control any feature on the XS54. Too many good things to list right now. But it is a breeze to scroll through the TVGOS screen in order to set up a recording. I'm not sure if this is a great benefit because I have the XS54 set up as an editing platform but I thought I would note it here.

Very easy to use the notebook keyboard for title naming etc. The Net Monitor allows me to stream video to my notebook - very cool. Too much to list right now it's too new. Perhaps I'll post back again. Awesome.

Does this network navigation let you download shows to the computer?

also, since it's web-browser based from what I see in this discussion, presumably it works on a Mac just fine?

(Though I got my XS32 because I didn't want to necessarily deal with computer burning for DVDs, in retrospect I can imaging doing _some_ of it on a computer, especially if I can collect a bunch of musical performances on the computer, then burn at once. This is slightly tedious on my XS32..)

in other words, I could see getting one of these cheap to use instead of trying to get my XS32's burner replaced.
