I am looking to upgrade my current Yamaha RX-V2400. I have JBL Studio Series II speakers for front, center, and rear, and an SVS 25-31PCi subwoofer. My setup is used 85% video and 15% Music. This is in a large open room with a vaulted ceiling (not ideal, I know)

I have narrowed my selection down to the following 3 receivers:

Yamaha RX-V2065

Denon AVR-3310

Onkyo TX-NR807

Any help in making a decision is greatly appreciated, as well as the cheapest place to purchase.

Thanks!

Best prices for the Onkyo and Yamaha at this time seem to be Newegg. The Denon possibly at 6 ave. Also consider the Onkyo 876 new at tigerdirect or refurbs on this and other Onkyo's and Marantz units at accessories4less. For the price of the 2065 or Denon 3310 you could almost go for the Yamaha 665 or 765 and an Emotiva XPA3 for the fronts and let the AVR do the surround duty also. The 665 would let you do this if its an option.

Of your choices the only one that is under $1k from an authorized dealer is the 807. You may be able to get one of the others from 6 ave.com whenever they have one of their "name your price" sales. The Onkyo 876 is under 1K at accessories4less. There's also the brother to the 807 the RC180 for well under that price. You could also look into the Yamaha 1065, Denon 2310, or a Marantz 6003 or maybe even the Marantz 7002.

Check out the Onkyo HT-RC180, nearly identicle (a few less wpc and a couple other minor things) to the 807 and going for around $650 online.

RX-V2065 was $899 yesterday at Newegg.com. Wait until this weekend, it'll come on sale again.

I saw that deal as well. I was tempted to buy, but I have read that Yamaha has really cheaped out on their current receivers. As a matter of fact, I have seen all of these receivers for under $1000 shipped at one point.

So I guess I can eliminate the Yamaha as one of my choices. Now it is between the Onkyo 807 or Denon 3310.

The Yamaha 2065 is 27.4 lbs and the Denon 3310 is 28.6 lbs but 2" deeper.

Its really the lower model Yamaha receivers that most people were complaining about, the RX-V665 and below. Those dropped from 25lbs last year to 18lbs now.

The Onkyo NR807 is still a beast at close to 40lbs!

With a room with that type of design you may be better served to get an AVR with pre-outs and an amp. The Yamaha 665 + an Emotiva XPA3 would work out fine and keep you under budget. Let the 665 do the surrounds only.
