Really need help choosing a 5.1 System!!!

This is my first post - thank god I found this site as I was about 1 day away from getting a BOSE AM10 and all of your posts saved me on that one.

Now after much researching and searching on the forums, I have narrowed it down to the following Systems:

- Orb Audio - People's Choice (Orb2 Fronts / Orb 1 Rears)

- Polk 6880

- Mirage Nano Stat

- Klipsch Quintet III w/ Klipsch Sub

I have a H/K 340 Reciever (approx. 50-55W) and the room has hardwood floors with dimensions of 12' Deep x 25' Wide with 18' ceilings for about 15' of the Width. I will be using it for HT about 70% of the time and 30% for music. I already have spots for the speakers but only have about 10" H x 6" W x 6" D Max dimensions for the satellites (hence the choices above). The max budget with sub is $1000.

I have not heard any of these systems in person apart from the Quintets, and will not likely be able to hear the other three in person. Based on the room setup, usage, and choices above, what do you guys think my best choice is. I was planning on doing the Orb's, but many of the other choices may offer similar sound for the less $$$. Also, are there any concern's on room size being a problem with these.

Thanks in advance - this forum is really great!

Welcome to AVS, unhguy86.

The center for that Polk system looks like it's too big for your stated dimensions.

The Orb system should work for you. I suggest posting in the dedicated Orb thread for more opinions.

I also suggest considering Home Theater Direct's middies with a PB10-ISD sub from SVS.

The SVS center and satellites are all larger than the OP's stated size requirements.

Thanks for pointing that out. Sry for the bad advise.

Looks like that HSU center also is too large. You think?
Are you guys thinking that the orb's w/ Super 8 just aren't as good as the SVS or HTD's? Or is it a price / value thing? I really like the look of the orbs, but really just want the best performance for my size and budget constrictions.

Thanks for everyone's reply so far!!

Chris
www.tsto.com has a mirage nanosat system with a denon 1705 receiver for $699.

there's a picture on page 6.
Your max dimensions of 10" H x 6" W x 6" limits your choices quite a bit. If this is not the correct dimensions, now would be a good time to clarify this. The SVS speakers are too big to fit in a space this size. Considering your size restrictions and your budget, I would only consider the Orbs or the middies with the SVS sub. Between these two it may be more a matter of personal preference. First it would be best to confirm these are the max dimensions for your speakers or clarify exatly what it is.
Yes, those are my max dimensions. 10" H x 6" W x 6" D.

Do you guys think that the orbs or Middies will have trouble with the 18' ceiling? And is there anyone out there who has tried both orb's and middies?

Thanks again!

That would be an interesting comparison, easy enough for a current Orb system owner to do by ordering 5 middies from HTD (risk free). That would be a good question to post in a seperate thread or in the dedicated Orb thread, if you don't get a response here.

Regarding how well these would do with an 18' ceiling, I suggest calling HTD and Orb Audio for their professional advice.
