In a 7.1 system, what would be the ideal distance for the rear surrounds to be from the listening position?I have paridigm mon.9s for fronts,adp350s for sides, and monitor 7s for rears.Currently have rears 12 ft. behind and about 8 ft. apart. The fronts are also about 12 ft. from listening position. Any suggestions?

My understanding is that if you draw a circle around the listening position, the speakers ideally would all lie on this circle. Then for direct radiating (monopole) speakers, the sides should be placed at 110 degrees from directly ahead and the rears should be placed at 135 degrees.

For dipole speakers, the locations will be different.

Also if you perform a web search on speaker locations and configurations for dipole versus monopole for movie versus music, you'll have enough reading for many hours and still not get a definitive answer.
