I'm helping a friend of mine pick out some rear speakers for his current setup. His budget for the pair is $900. Right now he has the following components.

Onkyo HT-R667 Receiver

B&W P5 L&R

ERA 5 LCR Center

I'm pretty clueless when it comes to good speakers. It's the one area of electronics where I am pretty weak.

If the surrounds are for a 5.1 Dolby Digital movie setup, they are "sides", not rears (added in a 7.1 setup).

And, for movie soundtracks you definately do not need to spend that kind of money on surround speakers. There is just not that much audio information in surround channels other than ambient and positional audio effects.

If your friend is into true multichannel audio, like DVD-A or SACD, then the surrounds should match is fronts so the music timbre does not change between speakers.

He is going to use a 5.1 setup for movies. The stereo sound out of the P5's is fine for his music needs. Should he just uses the Onkyo speakers that came with his HT-R667?
