I am setting up a little home theater in a corner of a bedroom at 8ft by 8ft.

I will place all the speakers on stands.

I have JBL 2500 bookshelves for the front left and right and I am using small harman-kardons HKTS2s for a 6.1 setup around a 27in TV.

Thus for the 3 speakers in the rear, should I place them at ear level with the front left and right speakers? Or should I place them about 1.5ft above ear level?

What is the general approach?

And how would a 1.5ft height increase alter surround quality in my setup?

(I will experiment but do not want to pay extra for higher stands if I don't need them.)

Thanks!!

Typically surrounds are placed 2-3 feet above ear level. Definately not at ear level (except maybe with dipoles, but even then I'd say put them all 2-3 feet above you)...

The reason is to create a more immersive field without feeling like sounds are being shot directly at your head.
