I am soon to buy a Toshiba 42 inch plasma, and I don't quite trust the 20 year old tv cart that I got from my parents when I moved to work in the long term. What I want to do is replace what I have, which is a very basic cart. I already have a nice rack for all my a/v gear, and my speakers are mounted on stands.
I just need a stand that will hold the 100 pound tv, and the top just needs to be big enough to hold the tv base (which is kinda big, but nowhere near as wide as the tv itself). Something with just a top shelf, and at most of bottom shelf (which i currently use to store dvds) is all I need. Thus far I have been looking, and lots of stuff has elaborate extra shelves and media storage, and is more than I want to spend. I just want an open stand to raise my tv off the floor to the correct height.
Most of the stuff I have found is wooden, but a metal, or metal and glass stand is what I really want. I have seen some larger stands like this, but I dont have room for a 60" wide stand. I am looking for at most a 36-40" wide stand (ie the tv will stick over the edges, but the pedestal base will be totally on the stand). Anyone have any ideas where I can find something basic like this? I keep running into ones that are much more elaborate than I want or need.
