I have an existing APC UPS that I'm using for my HTPC and DirecTivo. When I was hooking up my new receiver today I noticed that I have a free socket I can use. So I connected the power cable from my receiver to the UPS. How will this affect the receiver operation in terms of "clean" power?

1) no difference

2) better than connecting it directly to the wall outlet or a normal power strip.

3) worse

Thanks.

if you are using a ups, you need to make sure that it is large enough to adequately power your receiver......

i would not use anything less than 1800 watts (15 amps) to plug in a receiver..... anything less could possibly start a fire - there was a recent recall on some APC units that had caused fires......

as to audible benefits?..... IMHO i really don't think that you will hear any improvement using something that was designed for computer applications....

cheers!

You just did it. Does it sound any different? If the UPS has sufficient power for the receiver, it probably doesn't. ;)

Rule of thumb...

never plug in more then 1/2 the watts the UPS can support. Thats from practice we use for all our servers and computers.

I dont use my UPS for the AVR but I do use one for my DLP and 4 DVD players and a HDPVR. My APC is rated for 800watts and I have less then 400watts connect.

Just get a very good line conditioner for the AVR and it could sound "better," but this is all voodoo to non believers....:D I even use audiophile power cables LOL...(cause I use to distribute them)

Looks like my UPS is rated 300watts so I'll abandon this experiment for now. When I did hook up my receiver to it I didn't hear any difference though.
