Receiver and Hi Def 5.1 programming

430 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  shootnpar
I just had Comcast HiDEF Cable installed and am noticing that some theme songs from shows are coming out of my back speakers and that explosions, gunfire are nearly non-existant. Is this because I don't have a 5.1 receiver? If I were to purchase one, do you think that would correct my problem? It's better when viewing DVD's!

Thanks,

How is that you have "back" speakers without a 5.1 receiver ??? They must be hooked up to something!?

Why don't you tell us what you *do* have?
If you have only two surround speakers don't confuse them with "back" speakers which are used in a 6.1/7.1 system. I'll assume your system is Dolby Pro Logic. Unfortunately, your'e at the mercy of the network when it comes to how the material is mixed. The networks Don't broadcast DD in SD-TV. With your new HD setup it is highly recommended that you upgrade your audio to DD. You will hear huge differences from your DVD player and network programming signals broadcast in DD. It's the only way to fly.
Ok, what I have is an older receiver (not 5.1) with a center speaker, 2 fronts and 2 rears and a sub. The fronts are hooked up as fronts, etc. The receiver is dolby pro-logic. So, it's set up for surround though I may not be receiving true surround without purchasing a 5.1 receiver. Also, as stated, purchasing one may increase my listening pleasure on dvds and dolby digital transmitted programming. Correct?
