I am currently using an Onkyo 574 and it is shutting off during periods of high volumes, as during explosions, low bass, etc. This is a new problem. I've been reading for solutions, and it seems I will need to recheck all my speaker wires for shorts, but i have been looking to upgrade to something with HDMI anyways, so if i can't fix it, upgrade is coming sooner than later. So, I wondered if i could get few opinions on what I need/serves my purposes.
I am going to hook up a PS3, comcast motorola HD DVR to my Panasonic Viera 50" plasma. Still pretty new to the game, so want to check my facts. This site has been beyond helpful for all my choices, so thanks in advance. Oh and my speaker set up are PSBs: C60 center, B25 for mains, Bic H100 sub, and some athena b-1s for surrounds(old mains). I upgraded to PSBs because old center was lacking. I think even after getting the PSBs, I have found maybe part of the issue is the mix on dvds/blu rays. Sound levels for dialouge just aren't leveled properly w/rest of mix. The PSBs made great difference, but I am wondering on features of receivers that could help with this issue.
Dynamic eq? Audessey eq? Pretty unsure of differences and what would help. Shouldn't have to turn down volume during action sequences to keep audio at comfortable level. It'd be different w/out roommates, but late night viewing makes it difficult to hear dialouge and not shake walls during action sections. Also, something with a decent auto set-up since I am looking for something relatively easy to use, and hook-up since I am still sorta functionally impared. I know by reading various threads for PS3 all I need is something with HDMI to get best sound from my blu-rays. So 2 HDMIs are really all I need.
So, I think that covers the basics of what I have so far. Anything sound out of whack w/info I have gathered so far? Any receiver suggestions for my set-up, keeping in mind something w/decent auto-set up? And if there is someone that can tell me about the dynamic vs audio eq, is this like the 'late night' button on my current Onkyo(which i just realized was there and what it did a week ago)? I assume that its function is to increase dialouge volume, and lower effects volume, but my receiver has been turning off since before i tried using it.
Almost forgot. Budget. 400ish.
