Receiver for Jamo S 606 HCS 3

2032 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Aleksandrs
Hello everyone,

I am planning to set up a home cinema. I found a great deal for Jamo S 606 HCS 3, which I also really enjoyed in terms of sound quality the produce.

The question is what kind of AV receiver do I need for them? I was told that Yamaha RX-V367 will be more than enough for this system.

I got my eye on Pioneer VSX-1021-K mainly due to the fact that it supports airplay, which is seen as a great advantage to me being a mac user.

The question is, is it worth paying more for a Pioneer or just add airport express to Yamaha or may be stick with other brands? Would highly appreciate any recommendations. The budget for the AV receiver is somewhere in the region of the price for Pioneer which is somewhere around 800USD.

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Where are you located?

In the US, you can get the 1121 for $800. The 1021 is as low as $400.
I live in Latvia. The price for Pioneer 1021 here is $770.

Another option is Pioneer 921, which costs here $557.

Would Pioneer VSX-921 be suitable ? (It also has airplay)

Thank you
The Pioneer VSX-921 over here in the USA doesn't have an ethernet port or Airplay. You have to at least get the 1021.

If the 921 has Airplay in Latvia(it does NOT in the US), then it will work.

If Airplay is a "must", I'd pick a Pioneer over a Denon. Denon can't use Airplay in Zone 2 without it also being Zone 1.

So, it is your choice. If there are "no other features" the 1021 or 1121 have that you'd care about...then the 921 is enough. They all share essentially the same power supply, so you aren't missing anything with the 921 you'd get from the 1021. It is all features.
The European Pioneer versions are "better" than the US version. The European version are higher-spec'd and do have AirPlay and a Ethernet port for the VSX-921.
