Receiver in the $300 to $400 range?

I've had my Kenwood HTIB since about 2001 and I feel it's about time to upgrade. It still sounds great but falls short in some areas. I ditched the sub it came w/ and have a powered Sony 10". I plan to replace the speakers in May w/ Fluance's $200 or $300 5.1. I know they're not the greatest speakers but honestly, I'm easily impressed when it comes to sound and I know they will blow me away.

So right now I just need a recommendation for a receiver. Although I'm wondering, is it best that I upgrade my receiver first or my speakers? Would using a new receiver w/ my old speakers make a big difference?

Like the thread title says, I'm looking for something in the $300 to $400 range. Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Speakers will make much more difference than a receiver. Lots of choices in your price range: Pioneer 819 or 919, Denon AVR-590 or 1610, Yamaha 465 or 565, Onkyo SR507. Compare the features and see which one suits your needs best. Good luck and remember just about everything you read here will be an opinion, not a fact.
