receiver that can power a sub

273 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  rlinx5
hi. i am looking for a 6.1 or 7.1 receiver where you can assign one amp channel to a subwoofer. i will be hooking up a 5.1 speaker set-up with a passive sub. is there such a flexible receiver or should i start looking for a separate amp?

I don't know of any.

You could match a "plate" type amplifier to the sub, look HERE.
If your passive sub has ins and outs then you can use the speaker level out to power your sub and it will not hurt the performance of the reciever, because I used to have an old radioshack passive sub and it worked great for many years with that same hookup.
I think some of the Kenwood receivers allow you to do this.
