Receivers and HDMI switching

HDMI newbie question. I've just bought a BenQ PE8720 projector. I plan to run all my devices - dvd player, vhs video recorder, cable tv, free tv, computer - into an av receiver (Pioneer VSX AX2AV) with HDMI switching. Question 1 - is the signal degraded in any way by running a single HDMI cable from the receiver into the BenQ compared to running all the devices direct into the projector. Question 2 - is the answer the same if there is any upscaling of say the VHS signal before it is switched to the BenQ on a single cable?

thanks in advance for any help

Whoa. Beware what you're doing. If a receiver says "HDMI switching" that doesn't mean it'll convert anything into HDMI - it means that the AVR will switch between HDMI components. You'll need something that says "upconverting" or "transcoding" for a simple conversion from one type of signal to another.
As I understand it the signals will be upscaled by the BenQ PE8720. Apparently it does a good very job at upscaling. The Pioneer may or may not upscale. The company's website and the receiver manual are vague about this.
