Recent SVS Tower Upgrade. Setup help

Just recently upgraded my Front L/R/C setup from Klipsch inwall speakers to the SVS prime towers. I have the Yamaha RXA3070 and the Yamaha RXV867. I have been using the 867 to run my L/R/C's and im thinking maybe i shouldnt be with the new towers. Im pretty noobie with wattage and ohms and all that. My thinking is that the 3070 is more powerful and should run my high demand speakers and maybe and can have the 867 run my atmos and rear surrounds. I know at some point i should upgrade to an external amp ... maybe now.. but the 867 ive had for a long time and has been working well in my setup. please let me know the best way to proceed ...

You can't use both together.

The 3070 with no external amp is all you need.
I am using the 867 as a external amp. I have a full atmos setup which requires 2 channels amplified by another receiver or amp

I see now it has multi channel inputs which is uncommon these days.

The Prime Towers are relatively easy to drive at 86/87db sensitivity so not sure you really need to use the 867 but as you have it, why not.

Im using the 867 as a budget amplifier, the 3070 does process 11 channels but only amplifies 9. This is why i use the 867 for my fronts. But now im thinking since the 3070 is much more powerful than the 867 that i should have the 3070 power the fronts and have the 867 power the atmos and or rear surrounds. I dont want to overload the 3070 if i dont have to. It puts off a ton of heat during movies as it is..

If it's putting off a lot of heat running surround and atmos channels, something's not right. You either have it cranked up to 11 or your surround and atmos are low sensitivity or HTIB speakers. Maybe something out of phase.

I always get an out of phase when i do ypao on the yammy reciever on my rear surround. I have switched the wires around both ways and still get it. i do run the receiver at -20 . its pretty loud for sure. right around 85 to 90 db. during high action scenes it hits around 114 db

What speakers make up your surround and atmos channels?

The more information you provide, the better we'll be able to help and advise you.
What speakers make up your surround and atmos channels?
Klipsch CDT-5650-C II for the atmos speakers and Klipsch R-5650-S II for side surrounds

Okay so the speakers are efficient and can get quite loud. Maybe a 5 channel amp wouldn't be such a bad idea given the fact you like listening at reference level. Use the amp to run the more demanding base layer and use the 3070 to run back surrounds and atmos channels.

that is exactly what i am doing now. but the 867 has lower wattage per channel than the 3070 hence the should i switch the fronts to the 3070. i was able to level match all of the speakers woth no issue just thought it could be a better fit the other way around. and, honestly im back and forth between how much better, if any at all, the svs towers are than the in walls

Well.....If you're getting the desired levels without distortion you're probably okay. That said, in your situation I'd be using the 3070 for the more demanding base layer.
