Thought I measured right, but the dimensions did not account for the damn feet.
Can I take the feet off my pioneer vsx9040 to make it fit? there are no doors or back to the stand. Will it have enough ventalation.

those feet aren't exactly huge, so if it won't fit with them, I very much doubt your receiver will have enough space to be able to breath without them. Read the manual, the manual for my onkyo 707 states:

Leave 20 cm (8") of free space at the top and sides and 10 cm (4") at the rear. The rear edge of the shelf or board above the apparatus shall be set 10 cm (4") away from the rear panel or wall, creating a fluelike gap for warm air to escape.

time for a new stand

Exactly, get a new stand because the receiver needs room to breathe anyway. Sounds like it was tight fit even if it worked for you!
