I have a friend that looks to me for tech advice...but I don't really follow tv's unless I'm in the market.

What's the best value right now for a 37"-42" lcd or plasma in the $500-$700 range. I don't know if you can get a decent 1080p for this price. He watches a lot of sports, so 120hz? Thanks

I got a Samsung PN42B450 in July that I'm happy with. I just looked on Amazon and saw $625, but you might do better. It's a 720p plasma. Nice color and good user adjustability.

Sears has these options:

Panasonic:

TC-P42X1 - $599

TC-P42S1 - $699

Samsung:

PN42b450 - $574

Sony:

KDL40S5100 - $679

If i go with the Sammy I can purchase myself a new digital receiver for the living room (selling the old to make up the difference)

Heck, why limit yourself to small displays?

LG's 50-inch has been spotted for $600.

Panasonic's 50X1 can often be found for $700. Same with Samsung's B450.

+1, the 50" sets are only a bit more than the 42's

If you can fold the rear seats down, yeah it will fit. I took my Panny TCP-42S1 home in a 98 Honda Civic hatchback

Bear in mind, also, for Panasonic plasmas, and I presume for all plasmas, the shipping box specifies that the TV needs to remain upright.

When I took mine home I found out after unloading it, but so far all is good and my trip was very short.....about 13 minutes or less. If you've got a long drive home, be wary.
