Recommend upgrade/sidegrade from Anthem MRX 300

My current receiver is the Anthem MRX 300 bought in 2011 (before that a Marantz SR5300). I have a 5.1 speaker setup and I have no plans of adding more speakers, not particularly interested in Dolby Atmos and whatever else, but I miss having more than four HDMI inputs, with a more robust and modern HDMI implementation (MRX 300 has various handshake issues, uses 50 watts when powered off if CEC is enabled and so on), 4k would be nice, room correction is important but doesn't have to be ARC.

Can you guys recommend a couple of different receivers for me to check out? I guess one candidate would be MRX 520 but it cost double what I paid for the MRX 300 in my country (Denmark). I am looking for alternatives. Price points are difficult since things don't cost the same in various countries. So let's just say my max is $2000 but less would be better :)

What are the "hot" receivers at the moment?

Replacing your Anthem with something comparable isn't going to be cheap. NAD T 758 has Dirac live which (arguably) is said to be better than ARC. The downside is it doesn't have alot of HDMI inputs. Alternatively, you can go with a Denon AVR-X3500 which has Audyssey XT32, dual sub eq, pre-outs, plenty of HDMI inputs and plenty of features.

Guessing you will get a fair number of non-Anthem recommendations let's leave that to others and talk Anthem for a minute.

The MRX 520 is a nice unit. I use one in an exercise room in a 3.0 configuration. My main system has an Anthem AVM 60 in a 5.1 configuration (though Atmos is in the plan). It was necessary to take the AVM 60 out of service for a network card repair. For a couple of weeks, the main system ran on the 520. It did a pretty good job. No it's not at the AVM 60 level, but at less than half the MSRP the performance differences were less than I'd have expected.

Before stepping away from Anthem, it might be worthwhile to verify that any unit you buy has a reasonable return policy in case things don't work out.

Anthem has become far too expensive in my country (Denmark). In the US it costs $1400, in Denmark it costs $2400! That's insane, Anthem.

Denon, NAD etc are much more reasonably priced in Denmark. So no Anthem for me.

Yikes! I had no idea it would cost that much more. The MRX 520 is nice but it isn't even remotely a good value at $2400!

Given that I only know costs in the US, perhaps this might help.

The Sound & Vision web site has a list of recommended AVRs that you could use to create a candidate AVR list which could then be narrowed based on cost where you live. A post here using that narrowed list seems likely to provide a fair bit of useful feedback.

I've found S&V to be fairly reliable. Here's a link to their site. Take a look under Top Picks.
