Recommendation for Father's Day

Hello all,


I am a newbie member, but as I purchase the gift for my dad, my assumption is that I will involve myself more with the forum.


I am looking to buy the home theater system for my dad. He plans to use it to hook it up to watch the movies and listen to the music from time to time.


Blue ray is not so much of a necessary item (although it seems like a standard nowadays).

Only thing my dad is interested is the stand up speakers(?) as seen in the below links. I just searched the Costco websites to get an idea and below seems to fit my budget (between 500 to 750).

What would be a better fit between the two? or shall i look other places?
