I love watching dvd concerts and enjoy casual karaoke singing.

Currently, I have my eyes set on getting a new audio system for the living room.

I found the Tsi series of Polk to be ideal.

Center: CS20

Fronts: TSi 300

Surrounds: TS1 100's or 200's

TV- Samsung 40" Full HD

Blue-ray dvd soon to come

What should I look out for in buying a new receiver?

My concern is to max the full potential of these new speakers and be able to hold over for the next 5-years at least.

I have my heart set on either Yamaha or Onkyo but is opened to other brands. I read about the importance of ohms but is clueless to what it means and really appreciated everyone's help.

Are these good enough for me? Any inputs, suggestions, comments, are greatly appreciated.

As you can see, my budget for the new receiver is under $500, preferably around $350-$400.

YAMAHA 7.1 RX-V565

ONKYO 7.1 TXSR706B

Pioneer 7.1 VSX-1019AH-K

ONKYO 7.1 TXSR806

I'm no expert, but I'll share what I've found. I just got into the whole AV thing in the last few months. Before this I prefered going to the movie's.

I have close to 1000 DVD's but I've seen a lot of them in the theater first.

Ok! So a few months back I got a new DVD player(oppo 983) after watching movies with this player on my Toshiba 26" wide screen, it seem to be a waste of the oppo player. So now to buy a new TV, got a Panasonic 50" plasma. Now it seemed a waste to watch the oppo/plasma without good surround sound!

I went out and got a Yamaha 463 on closeout for a couple hundred. It did not sound very good. I returned it and got a 863 on closeout for a few hundred more! again something just was not right. the sound was confused, it did not flow. Not that it was bad, I just expected more. A few weeks later while browsing at BHPhoto, I came across an Onkyo 705 open box for about 75% off. I got it, set it up and found what I was looking for! The sound from this Onkyo hit the spot! It's full with a very large field. In truth the Onkyo was many times better than the Yamaha in just the way it projected the sound.

So my vote go's to the Onkyo HT-RC160, it seems to be most of a 607 but cost less. I've seen it in local stores for close to $400. the 607 seems to run about $100. more. Good luck.
