Hi,

I am looking for a flat panel TV recommendations for my mom. The room is not large and I was thinking maybe a 37-40" would be a good size. This would be her first flat panel so she would not be super picky, but she watches a lot of TV daily and we are thinking of adding Netflix down the road so thinking a smart TV would be good. I was thinking of a Sony, Samsung, Vizio or LG in the $400-$500 range and was looking at something like the Samsung UN40H5203AFXZA. Does anyone have opinions or recommendations on this or something similar -- with decent picture as well as sound without adding speakers? Thanks so much!

Does anyone have any suggestions at all? Hoping the sound is sufficient enough without adding speakers. Thank you!

I think most of the users on this forum are enthusiasts and likely would be buying a bit higher end sets then your describing. So many of us may not have a lot of experience in the low end stuff. Many believe Vizio to be the top name in budget sets. Id take a look at Amazon reviews for sets in that price range to see what the typical average user thinks.

There is a chance you'll need to add a sound bar depending on how good her hearing is.

Best Buy can order the new 43” Vizio E-series Tv now even though it doesn’t show up on their website. That is $389.99 and it is an outstanding TV with good smart Tv features and a reasonable price.

If you are a member of Costco then most of the stores have the 40” Vizio E-series in stock right now. That is cheaper at $339 but my preference is for the 43” unless you simply can’t go any bigger than 40”.

The sound bar could be necessary but I would try it without the sound bar first.
