I am looking to build a new subwoofer. Something easy to build.

Room is sized about 20" x 15". Crown XLS 1500 or 2002 amps.
Usage is Music and Movies, with Music as higher priority.

I am currently looking at these two drivers.

  1. Dayton Audio RSS390HF-4 15"
  2. Dayton Audio RSS390HO-4 15"
Which would be a better option? Or is there something else i should look out for?
Should I go sealed or ported?

Depends on whether you're going sealed or ported
Should I go sealed or ported?
Depends on which driver you choose

Catch-22 notwithstanding, there is a solution to this paradox.

The EBP value (Efficiency Bandwidth Product, calculated by Fs/Qes) is usually used to determine suitability for sealed or ported enclosure. The Dayton Audio RSS390HF-4 15" has a EBP of 39, while the Dayton Audio RSS390HO-4 15" has a EBP of 61.4. The Dayton Audio RSS390HF-4 15" would therefore be more suitable for a sealed enclosure than the Dayton Audio RSS390HO-4 15"

Modeling each driver in each alignment is the best way to compare performance. A sealed box is usually easier to build.

I got 2 of the HF drivers. Have choice of 2 amps, Crown XLS 1500 and XLS 2002.
Recommended box size for sealed and for ported?
