Hello everyone, I am in the market for a new TV. So far I have looked at DLP and LCD rear projection but I wasnt very happy with the PW so I started looking at Plasma. My budget at this time is 3700 Max. What do you experts recommend?


The couch is approx. 10 feet from the TV, and right now I only have SD cable which will be upgraded in the new future. Any help would be great. Thanks again.

For your budget, at 10', I would recommend DLP or LCD projection (whichever looks better to your eyes). At 10', I would recommend at least a 50" plasma. Current prices for good 50" plasmas are at around $5K minimum. You can get excellent 42" plasmas under $3K, but I feel that 42" is too small for a 10' viewing distance.

Perhaps you can move the couch two feet closer to the screen. Or does this have unacceptable negative WAF?


Assuming this is a no go: If you haven't already you might want to look @ a 42" plasma @ 10' vs a 50" to 56" DLP/LCD projection at the same distance to really see what's best for you.


If you must have a plasma the Panasonics are highly recommended on this forum and you have plenty of other good choices in your price range (all 42" or 46" though). Do some browsing/searching and you'll find oodles of info on this very topic.

I wouldn't worry about those who claim a 42" is too small for a certain distance. That is there opinion. You have to decide for yourself if 42" is too little for 10 feet. It also depends on what your coming from. If your current tv is a 32" tube set a 42" widescreen set is going to look huge to you!



So, I would recommend a 42" Panasonic ED plasma. They look fantastic and you should have no problem getting one in your price range. Just make sure you bargain with them and get that price down.
