Recommened Speaker Driver (Snell) Cone Repair

I have a set of Snell Acoustics LCR500 speakers (x3), surrounds (SUR500?) (x2) and subs (SUB550) (x2) which I purchased in late 1993.

Recently (about a year ago) I discovered a "buzzing" noise coming from one of the rears. On investigation I found the main 6-1/2" driver cone (neoprene?) had detached from the outer supporting neoprene ring. At certain loud/low frequencies this caused a sharp vibration to occur. Over next couple of months second rear developed same problem, now one of the fronts has failed likewise. I could "survive" the rears by adjustment of low level frequencies being feed to them but I can't live with fronts "buzzing" - even if only at high volumes (sometimes you just have to go loud!).

This is an obvious manufacturing flaw & I fully expect all my cones to fail in next few months (as many others most probably have already). This appears to be a design flaw as all adhesive used to bond outer ring to cone has failed completley on almost all my drivers now. Can anyone report this problem with their Snell drivers? Has anyone successfully repaired these drivers? My locaal (Australian) Snell Distributor has advised me to purchase replacement drivers (x 10!!!)

What is recommended method to reattach the cones to outer ring (to stop vibration)? Does anyone recommend an adhesive to bond the materials? Is there a procedure to "do it yourself"? Will this additional weight of an adhesive change characteristics of driver response? Help!

Parts express sells speaker repair kits any size you want they have a web site, this could be time consuming but with excellent results. Or you could call Snell and complain, they make you a good replacement deal they have before. good luck those are really excellent speakers they have gotten good reviews. used to have a set, same configuration as you.
