Recording Directv

I am a newbie...Please excuse what might seem like a dumb question.


i have directv. Can i record the HD and SD formats and replay them to my tv using an HTPC without having Tivo?

recording standard def is easy. just need a capture card. google beyond TV and Sage TV for tivo like programs.


recording highdef from a sat box seems hard to do. i dont know much about it, but i thing that 169time.com has a solution that records to a HD-VHS.
