Was wanting to burn some DVDs from Showstopper recordings, so I read through this womble thread .

I believe an easier solution for me would be to buy a DVD recorder like the Panasonic E30, then record directly from the replay to the recorder? It seems on the surface to be a better option, since I would hate to buy womble for $250, then go through the learning curve of sucessfully using the software.

What would be the advantages and disadvatages of me taking this route?

Advantage: easier operation, not requiring a PC.

Disadvantage: picture quality suffers due to additional decoding-reencoding.

I think you could edit out the ads (at least with the software that came w/ my burner), but it would be so much more tedious than using something like womble. As was also pointed out, think the quality would suffer to.

I guess you could pause the recording when a commercial is playing into the recorder just like a vcr. But it would require you to be alert while making your transfers. :)

I have spent the last 4 months trying to teach my Mother-in-Law how to capture and Author DVDs.

She didn't get a Replay but she did but a Hardware MPEG2 Capture device.

After putzing with software, hardware, re-sampeling, updates and Betas...

She bought a Phillips DVDR-985 set-top recorder.

She made 7 very fine DVDs in hte first 3 days compared to the 1 working DVD made on the PC in the past 4 months.

The quality could cirtanly be better, but this WORKS...

Me, I'm working on the wife for the Replay and DVD burner.....

I'll be working a while longer.
