Recording Internet music: does quality of sound card make a difference?

396 Views 3 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  video321
I've recorded music from Internet radio stations (generally 128kbps) thru a program called ReplayRadio. The process (what-u-hear) is simple enough. Whatever sound comes out of the computer speakers is what is being recorded on the computer's hard drive. The music is then played back thru a router and a Squeezebox connected to a stereo receiver.

My question: does the quality of the sound card affect the quality of the recording and ultimately of the music as it is played thru the receiver? My computer has an integrated audio that came installed (SoundMAX digital). An external sound card I could use (if it will make a difference) is a SoundBlaster Extigy by Creative Labs. Will it make a difference?

Many thanks.

Not familiar with that particular program, but the entire signal should be purely digital until it exits the squeezebox. The only way the sound card would affect it is if you had to loop the line output back into the mic. in to record.
Unless you are feeding in an external audio source via your soundcard, I don't believe it should have an affect.
I would believe it does because more than likely its an analog capture. It will record ANYTHING being played which probably includes windows/program "dings".
