Recs? 5.1 for small room

Recs? 5.0 Bookshelf spkrs $600 - $1k?

Friends I've recently moved and had to downsize the theater. Paradoxically, this might help me get better sound since I'll ditch my mismatched clunker speakers and get a nice new set.

Budget: under $1000, would be deliriously happy to get under $600.

Theater/video games only. I have a separate audio system in another room.

Keeping Onkyo Sr-608 for now.
Keeping Klipsch RW-12d 12" active sub for now.

Room size: small and not laid out as well as I would like.
--> About 9' to 10' from seating to 125" screen.
--> Screen not against wall but mounted to overhang that comes out about 30" from the mechanicals closet at the back and drops down about 12" from the ceiling. Current plan is to mount center speaker to the underside of the overhang (so like a ceiling mount but will end up being about 1/4th of the way down from the top edge of the screen), behind acoustically transparent screen.
--> About 11' across.
--> Right side of seating area bare wall, left side three bookcases (can't be moved due to WAF). I could maybe scootch the bookcases a foot towards the screen to mount left surround to the wall but I'm concerned that basically being in a box formed by the walls and the bookcase would mess up the sound, So likelihood is right surround on wall, left on a bookshelf.
--> The left front prob has to go on the wall, about 18" in front of the last bookcase. I'm a little concerned that the bookcase placement will reduce the cone of that speaker.

Advice on setup?

Advice on speakers?

THANKS!!!

Forgot to mention that I have a 12" powered Klipsch RW 12d sub. Too much for the room. Would I be better off running it at a fraction of its volume or going with a smaller sub?
NHT Super 2.1 x 5 ($505). Keep the Klipsch sub if you want to hit your ideal budget, or get the RSL Speedwoofer sub for $400

I wouldn't worry about the sub being too big for the room

Using your current AVR and sub for the time being will give you more options on speakers. Since these are going behind an AT screen, just put down 3 Klipsch RP-5000F's behind it and call it a day.

Three identical speakers across the front behind the AT screen is optimal. Klipsch is a good recommendation but eats you whole budget.

These would work well too but not as efficient as the Klipsch. They are buy on get 1/2 off next one.

Or these Infinity 253's are on sale - Use Promo Code AVS253 for half off. Great return policy

3 are $599.00

Thanks for the recs!

But alas floorstanding speakers won't work. The screen hangs about 30-36" in front of closets. So when the screen is up I'd have these speakers floating in the middle of the floor in front of the closets.

My best idea is to mount bookshelf speakers to the underside of the overhang -- so 'ceiling' mounted but actually sitting behind the top half of the screen.

Setup gurus -- any flags on that?

Any recs for amazing bookshelfs for $600-$1k?

Just make sure to angle your center channel down towards the main listening position.

If you want to spend the whole budget on bookshelves, consider the Q Acoustics 3020i at $300 per pair. Or mix them up and use the NHTs as surrounds.
NHT Super Ones then are a great option or the A26/A25's I mentioned good also.
Chane 1.5's
or
Ascend Acoustic CBM-170's are great options too

Get three pairs of these, (free returns if not happy), come with wall mounts, 6.5" main drivers and an offset tweeter for less lobing when mounted horizontally.

You'd end up with one extra speaker but at $600 for six speakers still quite budget friendly.

Klipsch RP-600m’s are nice bookshelves. I have them. Sound like I spent a lot more than I did. If you do anything Klipsch, PM me. I have a great authorized source.

RSL CG3/23 is well regarded ... perfect for a smaller room.
